Reminiscent of Chrissie Hynde and Joni Mitchell, Ms. Wight is a vocalist/songwriter currently living in Los Angeles. She has lived all over the city from Santa Monica to Southgate, and has absorbed art, music, and culture from the eclectic groups of people she has been surrounded by all her 21 years.
"My mother is a vocalist/trumpeter; father a rock n roll guitarist; grandma a pianist; sister a songwriter and singer; and the rest of my family were all musicians at one time or another. Growing up, all my grandma's nine children had a family band like Jefferson Airplane. And the youngest son, who is Michael Damian, a recurring actor on The Young and the Restless, would bring me to the sets when I was little and have me sit in his dressing room while he'd work. I remember it being the most wonderful place in the world! From then on, I took a great interest in music and art and would write little songs with my cousin Kristie, but I started to really get into songwriting at 15 years old. And on my sixteenth birthday I received an electric guitar from another uncle, Tom Weir (Grammy-winning mixer/engineer) and a Sleater-Kinney record from my lovely sister. That band changed my life. And from then on I knew I had to do just what I'm doing right now".
Over the last six years, Laura has been writing her own music as well as singing on numerous records of friends and artists in the area. She has fronted bands, and has been playing nightclubs all over the city, and has toured Northern California, Utah, Oregon, and Washington. Her voice can be heard on the "Moondance Alexander" soundtrack, a recently released family film directed by Michael Damian.
Regarding plans for the future, Laura says, "I just plan on continuing what I've started. I love singing and writing and performing, so I play with friends and take jobs I feel will help further my experiences as an artist. Just as in everyday life, there's always something new to learn in this area of work. I'm in an exciting profession. And I plan to stay here forever".
We wish the best for Laura's future as an artist, and thank her for a wonderful song performance; one we hope everyone will enjoy.
