Melody joined the daytime drama in 1979. Her character Nikki Newman, described as the ultimate survivor, has been married multiple times (most memorably to business tycoon Victor Newman played by Eric Braeden) and is currently engaged to private investigator Paul Williams (played by Doug Davidson). Nikki has matured from the girl from the wrong side of the tracks to the serial's luminous and resourceful heroine.
After garnering a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in 1999, she went on to win in the same category for the Digest Award in 2001. She also received four Update Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress (1992, 1993, 1995 and 1996) for her portrayal of Nikki.
Melody began her show business career at age three tutored by renowned coach Ethel Meglin, who launched the careers of Shirley Temple and Judy Garland. She made her motion picture debut at age eight when cast by Alfred Hitchcock as the young Tippi Hedren in the thriller Marnie. At age 13, she co-starred with Clint Eastwood and Geraldine Page in The Beguiled. While still a teenager, she starred opposite such stars as John Wayne in The Shootist, again with Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry, in Posse, opposite Kirk Douglas, who also directed her, and in Brian DePalma's The Fury. Scott's other appearances include film roles in The Car and Piranha and numerous television productions. She has also appeared as herself on such series as The Nanny, Diagnosis: Murder and The King of Queens.
The Young and the Restless revolves around the powerful Abbott and Newman families in Genoa City. The serial premiered on US television in 1973 and has consistently been the number one rating daytime drama there since 1989 and has notched up more than 50 Daytime Emmy® Awards. The show premiered in Australia on the Nine Network in 1975 and now exclusively screens on FOXTEL’s W channel.
